We’re so pleased that you’re ready to take a next step with Calvin Seminary! Before you begin your application for admission, here is information you may find helpful.

For all masters programs, the deadline to apply for admission for the fall semester is June 1. However, if you wish to be considered for scholarships and grants from Calvin, we must receive all of your application materials by March 1. The application for financial aid is included in the application for admission to Calvin, so no separate application is necessary. Some of our scholarships are need-based; income and other personal financial information are necessary for determining eligibility. This information in no way impacts your admissibility. The deadline to apply and be considered for Calvin Seminary grants and scholarships for the spring semester is November 15.

Deadlines for other programs and degrees can be found within their application instructions.

Admissions Guidelines for Masters Programs

If you are applying to the M.Div., MTS, or MA programs, you should have a bachelors degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution and have a grade point average of 2.67 (B-) or higher.

A strong liberal arts education provides an excellent foundation for graduate level theological education. A liberal arts education shapes well-rounded, intellectually and culturally astute graduates. Therefore, it is recommended that a candidate’s baccalaureate preparation consist of courses in the liberal arts, including English, philosophy, history, literature, social science and natural science.

The Registrar’s Office, with oversight from the Admissions and Standards Committee, will examine the academic, professional and ministry background of each applicant.  If it is determined that an applicant would benefit from further study in a particular area, a learning plan will be developed which could include specific seminary electives or additional courses from another academic institution.

In some circumstances an applicant without a bachelor’s degree or with a bachelor’s degree from an unaccredited institution may be admitted into a degree program at Calvin Seminary under a special provision of the Association of Theological Schools.  In such cases, the Registrar, under the supervision of the Admissions and Standards Committee, will determine the program the applicant must take in order to meet the requirements for graduation.
